A Lion in the White House: Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858. When he was a newborn he suffered from asthma which made him, sort of, his father's favorite. He grew up in a 4-story brownstone in New York City, New York. When he was a child he was at Abraham Lincoln's funeral in 1865 in New York City. As a child his parents had to stay up with him and get his lungs working because back then they didn't have inhalers. So his parents had to come up with some way to get his lungs working. In 1876 Teddy went to Harvard University in Boston. 2 years later his father died. It was a big blow for him, but he redoubled his activities. In 1898, in the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt led his Rough Riders to capturing San Juan Hill and Kettle Hill on July 1 ,1898. After the Spanish-American War Roosevelt left the army and was elected governor of New York. In 1900 William McKinley chose him as his running mate for the 1900 National Election, which they won. So in 1901 he became Vice-President of the United States. However, a few months later, President McKinley was shot and he died. So Theodore Roosevelt, on September 14, 1901, became the youngest President of the United States at age 42. In 1904 Teddy ran for another term in office. He won again so now another 4 years in the White House. He decide not to run again in 1908. But in 1912 he ran for President again against Woodrow Wilson. Unfortunately, he lost. While campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin he was shot by a saloon keeper named John Schrank, but he didn't die. On January 6, 1919 he died in his sleep, most likely because of a heart attack, in Oyster Bay, New York. He is currently buried in Youngs Memorial Cemetery.

EARTH DAY '10

I've learned many, many things about Earth day. First of all I've learned that 4-22 is a day that we should dedicate to our planet. This is the place where we live and the only place where we can live. So for that we have to take care of it. We shouldn't cause any kind of pollution, do not cause anything harmful. We are all in this together and April 22nd isn't the only day we should take care of the planet it should be every day. Here are some things I do to save the planet. Every time I write something on a piece of paper I use both sides to reduce it. Whenever we come from the groceries we fold the plastic bags, and whenever needed, we reuse them. And I recycle newspapers, paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, boxes etc. Here at school I compost my paper lunch bag, apple scraps, orange peels etc. Also at school I sold 8 shirts which means I raised $112 to save .8 acres of the raniforest. I love to help the earth because I don't want it to die out in 2012. And we can't do ourselves everybody has to join in to save it.

☺What Makes Me Smile☺

I like to smile whenever good things happen. For example, whenever my favorite team wins or become the champions, I like to smile. Whenever I go to the Internet I like to go to YouTube and watch some funny videos and I like to smile and laugh. Every time I get home from school I put a huge smile on my face because I'm finally home and school is over. When school is over I get so happy that I don't have to go to school for almost 2 months, and it's the same thing for Spring Break and Christmas Break. I just love to smile because it means that good things are happening. There's nothing to be upset about and no reason to be down. Another thing that makes me smile is going to Mexico because I get to see all of my cousins and uncles. I love to smile when I play video games on the computer, on my PSP, or on my PlayStation. Whenever Mexico plays soccer against USA I like to smile because it's the best game to watch in North America and especially when Mexico wins I like to smile.
