Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858. When he was a newborn he suffered from asthma which made him, sort of, his father's favorite. He grew up in a 4-story brownstone in New York City, New York. When he was a child he was at Abraham Lincoln's funeral in 1865 in New York City. As a child his parents had to stay up with him and get his lungs working because back then they didn't have inhalers. So his parents had to come up with some way to get his lungs working. In 1876 Teddy went to Harvard University in Boston. 2 years later his father died. It was a big blow for him, but he redoubled his activities. In 1898, in the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt led his Rough Riders to capturing San Juan Hill and Kettle Hill on July 1 ,1898. After the Spanish-American War Roosevelt left the army and was elected governor of New York. In 1900 William McKinley chose him as his running mate for the 1900 National Election, which they won. So in 1901 he became Vice-President of the United States. However, a few months later, President McKinley was shot and he died. So Theodore Roosevelt, on September 14, 1901, became the youngest President of the United States at age 42. In 1904 Teddy ran for another term in office. He won again so now another 4 years in the White House. He decide not to run again in 1908. But in 1912 he ran for President again against Woodrow Wilson. Unfortunately, he lost. While campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin he was shot by a saloon keeper named John Schrank, but he didn't die. On January 6, 1919 he died in his sleep, most likely because of a heart attack, in Oyster Bay, New York. He is currently buried in Youngs Memorial Cemetery.
